Daniel J. Ramos, Mayor Pro Tem of Adelanto, proudly announces the 2024 recipients of the Adelanto Green Futures Cannabis Scholarship Program. This year’s honored scholars, T’Onna Chappell, Isis Ramirez, and Arianna Windust, have demonstrated exceptional academic dedication and perseverance, embodying the spirit of excellence and community engagement.

Initiated by Mayor Pro Tem Daniel J. Ramos, the Green Futures Cannabis Scholarship Program is the first of its kind in California, designed to support local students in their pursuit of higher education. “We are incredibly fortunate to have a thriving cannabis industry that not only supports our local schools and youth’s future but also contributes significantly to our community’s well-being,” said Ramos.

Adelanto Celebrates the Opening of a New Neighborhood Park

In February, Adelanto city officials broke ground on a nearly $2.8 million neighborhood park, located on 1.77 acres at Chamberlaine Way and Jonathan Street. This exciting development brings a variety of new amenities to our community, making it a wonderful place for families and residents to enjoy.

Park Features

The new park project includes:

New Playground: A modern and safe play area for children of all ages.
Splash Pad: A refreshing water feature perfect for hot days.
Basketball Court: A full-sized court for basketball enthusiasts.
Covered Picnic Area: Shaded spaces for family gatherings and picnics.
Restroom/Shower Facilities: Convenient amenities for park visitors.
Tetherball Court: A fun addition for both kids and adults.
Exercise Equipment: Outdoor fitness options to promote healthy lifestyles.
Turf Areas: Green spaces for relaxation and recreation.
Walking Paths: Scenic paths for walking, jogging, and enjoying the outdoors.
Perimeter Fence: Enhanced safety and security for park users.
Landscaping and Lighting: Beautifully designed and well-lit areas for evening use.

Funding and Support

The park was made possible with a generous grant from the California Department of Parks and Recreation. The Daily Press reported that more than $548.3 million in state grants were awarded at that time to improve 62 existing parks and construct 50 new parks across California. This significant investment in our community underscores the importance of accessible and quality recreational spaces.
